In the Social Platform team we believe that social interactions between shoppers will be central to the shopping process. Sharing and following information around products on e-commerce sites as well as using existing social networks will help shoppers make better decisions. We are working on adding a social information layer to shopping.
We are a small agile team of highly motivated and smart people who are working on innovating to make shopping experience on Wal-Mart’s online, mobile and physical stores more social. We are working on building a great online product powered by unique big data mining technologies. This high scale social infrastructure has the potential to connect all online and offline shoppers, including Wal-Mart’s huge customer base and will power a new user experience that adds a new aspect to social shopping.

-Work with great engineers and product visionaries to contribute to the vision and design of Wal-Mart’s Social Platform.
-Drive and own the implementation of the Social Platform application and website.
-Work on implementing a highly scalable distributed web application in Java that will power a high-scale high-usage website.
-Be a Product Engineer creating and experimenting with new ideas that will engage and excite our customers.
-Be the founding engineer and lay the foundations of a major application and website.
THE DESIRED SKILL-SETS:
-a BA/BS/MA/MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
-3+ years of experience building db backed web applications with interactive front ends.
-Experience with Java.
-Strong aptitude for writing elegant code and ability to abstract for re-use.
-Experience with Java Play, Java Spring, Apache Wicket and similar frameworks a plus.
-Experience with distributed/scalable systems a plus.
-Experience with Cassandra, Memcached, Redis, or RabbitMQ a plus.
-Ability to operate effectively and independently in a dynamic, fluid environment a plus
