The Stanford Biomedical Informatics Research Center is seeking a full-time project manager to help direct and coordinate activities for the National Center for Biomedical Ontology (NCBO; http://bioontology.org) at one of the seven NIH-sponsored National Centers for Biomedical Computing. The NCBO involves an international collaboration of scientists who are building and deploying information technology for storing, accessing, and using biomedical knowledge on the Internet in support of a wide range of biomedical applications.

The successful applicant will report directly to the Center’s principal investigator. He or she must enjoy the range of challenges that coordinating a large, complex National Center creates. The successful applicant will be charged with integrating activities across the Center’s sites, as well as interacting with the external community of investigators who are using the Center’s resources. As over-all project manager for the NCBO, this individual will be responsible for establishing effective communication channels between sites, determining integration points, coordinating dependent activities, and tracking the progress of the Center’s deliverables. He or she will develop a work-plan assuring that the Center’s work is delivered on time and successfully meets the requirements of the biomedical community. The project manager will organize and coordinate project meetings as necessary, assist sub-recipient PIs with budgeting, and prepare reports for the Center and for the NIH and maintain the Center’s Web presence. The person in this position will also have an external role, communicating the NCBO’s activities and research results to the entire scientific community, and implementing the Center’s plan for soliciting and coordinating new Driving Biological Projects (collaborative projects with external organizations). The position requires travel to performance sites, to conferences, and to project meetings organized both by the Center and NIH.

Qualifications: A minimum of two years experience in management of large-scale scientific projects is required. Must possess excellent communication, organization, and administrative skills; facility in developing documents, presentations and Web pages. Master’s degree required; graduate training in biomedical informatics, computer science, biology or a related science is highly desirable. Project management and proposal-writing experience in an academic setting preferred.
